Alexis Bale’s journey into the legal field has been one of determination, advocacy, and a steadfast commitment to justice. Growing up in eastern Washington State, Alexis was a first-generation college student, an achievement that ignited a passion for higher education and social change. After completing her bachelor’s degree at Gonzaga University, magna cum laude, at the age of 19, Alexis went on to become the youngest graduate in her class at William & Mary Law School, earning her Juris Doctor in May 2024.

Throughout her academic career, Alexis demonstrated an impressive dedication to trial advocacy, participating in several high-profile competitions and earning numerous accolades. As a member of William & Mary’s National Trial Team, she secured first place in the Academy of Allegheny County Trial Lawyers Mock Trial Competition in 2024, where she was also recognized as Best Advocate. She earned the prestigious Virginia Trial Lawyers Association – Trial Advocacy Award, underscoring her outstanding courtroom skills. Alexis also received the Order of the Barristers Award for her excellence in oral advocacy, reflecting her ability to navigate complex legal arguments with precision and clarity.

From a young age, Alexis’ interests in social justice were shaped by her work with organizations like If/When/How and the Innocence Project, where she developed a passion for women’s rights and criminal justice reform. These experiences drove her to pursue opportunities in public defense, with internships at the Connecticut Federal Public Defenders and the Chesterfield Public Defenders. In these roles, she contributed to appellate briefs, conducted legal research, and supported trial preparations, gaining valuable experience in both criminal and civil litigation.

During law school, Alexis also served as a teaching assistant in the Legal Practice Program, mentoring first-year students in legal writing and Bluebook citations, demonstrating her commitment to fostering the next generation of legal professionals.

Making A Change

Alexis’ approach to law is shaped by empathy and a deep-seated desire to make meaningful change, especially for marginalized communities. Her work with groups like the Human Rights Campaign and Planned Parenthood exemplifies her advocacy for reproductive rights and broader social justice issues. She also has a background as an IRS-certified Advanced Tax Preparer, volunteering with VITA to assist low-income individuals in navigating tax returns.

Beyond her legal endeavors, Alexis finds joy in reading fiction novels and watching documentary series’. She values personal connections and continuously seeks opportunities to grow both professionally and personally.
